Yobongo: a new kind of location-based chat

by Michael Castellon on February 21, 2011

Yobongo lets you chat with whoever is nearby. The service is invite-only for now, but I expect we'll see (and hear) more of the service closer toward SXSW.

This sounds like a great app. There is so much pressure to network and to get as much information as possible while, and like the video says, you give a performance. Yobongo can really be an excellent icebreaker and lead to genuine connections. Other geo-location apps I feel do not fully address the social aspect. Yes, check-ins can be useful to initiate meetups with friends in the area, but from my experience, that really does not happen much. If this new app is successful, I think it could possible enhance social connections and transform the way people share information.
